This season, we're taking the plunge! From March to June 2026, the Carouge pool opened its doors to introduce young participants to water sports.
On the agenda:
1) Learning the basics of swimming (floating and swimming safely)
2) Introduction to scuba diving (fins, mask, snorkel, and autonomous breathing apparatus)
3) A scuba diving baptism!
The entire program aims to provide a rewarding, accessible, and professionally supervised sporting experience for a population unfamiliar with the aquatic environment.
Prepared for the summer, these courses are designed to guide young people in practicing swimming that is both healthy and safe. While swimming is beneficial for physical and mental health, especially during hot weather, it can be dangerous, particularly in fast-flowing waters (the Rhône, the Arve) or in lakes. We aim to provide comfort and confidence to young people who will be spending time in the water and on the banks this summer. Geneva is a great place for swimming, and it's important that it remains accessible to everyone, safely!
After a survey, two-thirds of the participants had never swum outside of lessons! By the end, all participants reported feeling more at ease in the water than at the start of the cycle, with 93% feeling significantly more confident ("somewhat" or "a lot"). With all the precautions we emphasize to prevent risks, this is a very encouraging result for promoting youth inclusion, autonomy, and the acquisition of new skills.

Among the testimonials we received, new friendships were forged, and the practice of French remains highly valued for daily life! As you can see, Rookie Slash is more than just sport; it's also about sharing and meaningful moments for both the young participants and the coaches.
In summary, the "First Bubbles" program is a hit: a secure and joyful environment that appeals to everyone! To go even further, the idea is to boost exchanges among young people, practice French naturally, better adapt groups, and create lasting connections with other Rookie Slash activities. In short, let's continue on this wonderful dynamic!
