We are excited to announce that the skateboarding part of our summer program is happening in collaboration with Skateistan!
Skateistan is an award-wining non-profit organisation that seeks to empower children through skateboarding and education. First implemented in Afghanistan, they now have skate-schools in South Africa, Cambodia, and Jordan. Their creative and art-based education gives the opportunity to children to become leaders in their own community.
In Rookie Slash, we apply their program called 'Skate and Create': a combination of skateboarding, arts, and education. This curriculum offers an opportunity for our participants to develop life skills, and make new friends while doing sports. Applying the 'Skate and Create' curriculum to our program truly helps us to create this positive environment we want the Rookies to evolve in.
Thanks to this collaboration, our skate-coaches benefitted from trainings on trauma-informed pedagogy, and children protection. What has been learned will greatly contribute to the good development of our skate classes. Skateistan also provided us with the skateboards and protection gears necessary to our skate lessons.
We are excited to grow and learn with Skateistan throughout this collaboration!
